  • Hi;

    In WordML a font like Verdana appears once. In rtf it appears a bunch of times a Verdana, Verdana (Hebrew), Verdana (CE), ... What are the rules for converting between them?

    thanks - dave

  • Hi Dave.

       Rtf created using different is different.

      Eg . if you use WordPad the rtf file will be the smallest.

    {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss\fcharset0 Arial;}}
    {\*\generator Msftedit 5.41.21.2500;}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs20 this is test\par
    }

    take a look at the fonttbl section you will see only one row.

    The word has implemented

    with a lor more default set ready.

  • Hi;

    Yes. But if I save a document in Word that has Chinese, Hebrew, and English in it - the WordML 2003 document has Verdana once while the RTF has Verdana in there as several different fonts, one for each charset.

    And if I then read the RTF file and save it as WordML, I get Verdana once. So does anyone know what the rules are Word is using to switch between multiple and a single font. I could try to copy what it does on expanding and contracting the font name - but I worry that my guess would be off and then I create a file that won't work.

    ??? - thanks - dave
