Re: Documents (docx) versus templates (dotx) and OpenXML

I've been trying to find reference info on what the difference is between the two file types and other types based on the dotx format such as buildingblocks.dotx in word. I've tried using some of the XML powertools and they complain that the dotx files are not OpenXML files and since they just can't be renamed to docx, there must be something different about their schema.

So, in addition to looking for reference info, just how does one deal with dotx files v. docx files? I'm SEVERELY disappointed that the powertools just don't work with template files.

I am not clear about your purpose. Could you explain more about your user scenario?

The example you reffered above for converting the dotx into docx, is not working, do you have some other references?

The example above is using microsoft open xml sdk, is there any example without using that SDK?
